Career Planning 101 The Basics You Need to Propel Your Career - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / Career Planning 101 The Basics You Need to Propel Your Career - Introvert Whisperer Career Planning 101: The Basics You Need to Propel Your Career All too often, we launch our careers simply by chance rather than by deliberate direction, and the direction we head after that looks very haphazard. While hard work and great results can definitely benefit your career trajectory, it still needs some consistent planning to really get the best results. Even if you’ve been working for ages and never thought to do some career management for yourself, it’s not too late to deploy some of these tactics to manage your career. If you are a newly minted graduate, you can fold these into your ongoing planning from day 1. Tactics to manage your career: 1. Have a Goal in Mind Even if you change your mind, continually be aiming at some specific career goal. It could be a promotion, advancement or an assignment to be pursued. Having a goal in mind helps shape your other actions. Without a goal, there’s no telling where you will end up. (Like this thought? Tweet it!) 2. Get Knowledgeable About the Criteria for Attaining Your Goal Questions you should be continuously asking are: What does it take to be promoted to the next level? To receive advancement? To be assigned to a juicy project? This is like climbing a mountain; you first need to decide which mountain. Once you do that, you can figure out the best way to get to your destination and what you need to support the climb. 3. Analyze Your Shortages With your goal in mind, you need to turn your attention to what you need to equip yourself with in order to be qualified to attain your goal. There may be a skill you need to develop or level up, and if that is true, how will you accomplish it? You may need to enroll in a class or seek someone out to train you. It’s safe to say that with all goals, there is action and knowledge required to get there. 4. Get Insight You would do well to speak to the people who have accomplished what you want to do. These people can provide you with great insight and information about the nature of the work and what they had to do to achieve what they did. While your path may be somewhat different, this type of information can prove invaluable, especially if there is some political work needed. Political turf is not always plain to see, and it’s good to get the “lay of the land”. 5. Create Accountability One thing about our own personal goals is that there’s no one but ourselves to push us and hold us accountable for taking the steps to achieve our goals. There are various things you can do to help you stay true to your commitment, starting with putting dates on your actions or steps. You can also involve someone in your plan, such as your boss, mentor or coach. If you ask someone to keep you accountable and ask you about your progress, it will help create a positive “tension” to keep you on task. 6. Prepare to Update Your Plan I once heard a saying, “A plan cannot withstand a collision with reality.” That means things happen that will cause your plan to stray off of its path. This is natural, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a plan. It simply means you need to continually update your plan as various circumstances present setbacks or opportunities. It’s good for you to refresh your plan at least every 6 months, or whenever some significant changes affect either your direction or actions. The management of your career is your responsibility; and you have to know that it may or may not go anywhere without your guidance. The effort you put into the thinking and ongoing planning will pay you back with the benefit of a career you love. Plus you will feel the direction is largely in your control. Who wouldn’t love that? However, if you’re a budding scientist, you’ll need to study subjects like maths, sciences and ICT.The disc iplines which are not considered to be ‘core’ subjects can sometimes appear decisive. For instance, students who choose to focus on learning a musical instrument may worry that this might limit their options if people expect them to become a professional musician. However, this is not the case. It is possible to take A Levels in maths, physics, music and French and end up doing a humanities degree. So, the subjects a student chooses to focus on is up to them and how they feel about taking them further depending on their experience or difficulties.A private tutor can help students who wish to focus on a certain subject whilst maintaining a good balance with other, ‘core’ disciplines.Mentoring from a private educator alongside school study is the best way to guarantee academic success. For some students, struggling to understand key points can be their downfall. For others, personal difficulties such as bullying or a family bereavement can affect their performance in exams. One to one tutors get to know each tutee individually to find the best way to move forward from whatever difficulties they may be faced with. Not everyone who retakes an exam chooses to do so because they have failed their first attempt. Some students resit certain exams to improve their grade. For example, if a student is looking to have a career in science, they may want to improve their GCSE grade in maths to give themselves more opportunities in the future. It is important to avoid getting into the habit of relying on resits, especially at university. There are private tutors available for every level, including undergraduate, so you can get the support you need to get a good grade on your first attempt.Private Tutors for a Change in Career PathIt’s not always easy to decide on your future career as a teenager . For this reason, it’s not uncommon for sixth-form students to do completely different subjects than their GCSEs or change between subjects in the first few weeks of study.Choosing a career path is rarely easy.It involves drawing on your personal preferences and what you enjoy, but also considering where these could potentially take you. Whatever you have in mind, your parents and teachers will be able to advise you on the next steps to take. However, don’t let anyone else’s opinions put you under pressure or turn you away from your ideal profession. When teenagers want to be sure about setting their study options in stone, taking private lessons can be a good way to confirm their interest in a subject before taking it further.Home tutors are able to help students progress academically and unlock their learning potential by advising them on routes into their chosen career.Perhaps you’ve realised that choices you made at the end of secondary school or the beginning of sixth fo rm aren’t the right ones. Commonly Mispronounced French Words And Phrases - And Their Correct Pronunciation

Commonly Mispronounced French Words And Phrases - And Their Correct Pronunciation Sign up successful For example, “petit” and “petite” are pronounced like this: Another example would be “bon appétit” and “bon appétite” which are pronounced like this: A mistake I also hear all the time is not pronouncing the last consonant of a word when the next word starts with a vowel. For example, “C’est un plaisir” where the “t” is pronounced because the next word starts with a vowel. However, in “C’est bien” the “t” is not pronounced because the next word starts with a consonant. Remember, this applies every time a word ending in a consonant is followed by a word starting with a vowel. Common French Words And Their Pronunciation Now let’s get more specific and discuss a few common French words that you most likely will use when practicing your French. A ton of new French learners tend to pronounce these (and others like these) incorrectly, and if you want to learn French, you have to master at least these sounds. You may or may not have the whole French accent down, but regardless, just try your best to at least get the sounds of each word right â€" whether or not you sound French, it’s not necessary. Rather than go through this list and try pronouncing them yourselves, then listen to the correct pronunciation to see if you got it right. Bonjour/Au revior Hello/Goodbye Croissant/Crêpe Croissant/Crepe Aujourd’hui/Demain Today/Tomorrow Zéro/Un/Deux/Trois Zero/One/Two/Three Quatre/Cinq/Six Four/Five/Six Sept/Huit/Neuf/Dix Seven/Eight/Nine/Ten Common French Phrases And Their Pronunciation Next, let’s focus on phrases and sentences in French. Pronouncing words can be tricky and difficult for those who don’t have the accent or the pronunciation down. And sadly, speaking sentences can be even more difficult and tricky because of the natural flow French demands of its speakers. In French, if you mispronounce a word or stumble over a phrase within a sentence, the entire sentence itself can become jumbled or result in the other person not understanding what you just said or were trying to say. There is a distinct flow in French when speaking correctly and new French learners might have a tough time getting the flow right. Let’s try pronouncing the following sentences and phrases to see how well you do. Read them out loud yourself first then hear the correct pronunciation to see if you got it right. Répétez sil vous plaît? Repeat, please? Quel âge avez-vous? How old are you? A tout à lheure. See you later. Comment dit-on ___ en français? How do you say ___ in French? Ce nest pas grave. It’s alright. Parlez-vous anglais? Do you speak English? Parlez lentement, sil vous plait. Speak slowly, please. How did you do? If you had trouble that’s okay â€" just keep practicing. If you did alright but didn’t have the accent that’s okay too â€" just keep mimicking other French speakers. And if you did great well that’s wonderful! French is a difficult language but give it time and you will be a great speaker! Emmanuel M. teaches singing and songwriting exclusively online. 3 Ways to Excel During Your Medical School Interview

3 Ways to Excel During Your Medical School Interview The following piece was written by Dr. Sahil Mehta and Brian Wu. Sahil and Brian are advisors for MedSchoolCoach, a medical school admissions consulting company. Sahil has been featured in our Admissions Expert series and is a former admissions interviewer for Columbia University. The medical school interview is an essential step toward gaining a medical school acceptance. We wanted to share with you some of the things that make a great medical school interview! A Great Personality Combined with Great Stories You want your personality to shine during the interview. It is best to show off your best traits during your answers by showing enthusiasm, sincerity, and well-thought out answers. When you are describing stories that relate to the questions, you want to show that you really were passionate about those events. Furthermore, you should be able to answer any follow-up questions because you were being sincere about the story to begin with. Lastly, the answers that are well prepared and thought out are often the ones that can demonstrate this style the best. Of course any of your stories will need to have been a personal experience that you could provide all the details for. Furthermore, you want your answer to be directly related to the question and to be a powerful and convincing answer. Again, the interview should be focused on you and why you are a great candidate for their school. A Great Introduction One of the major differences between interviews and the personal statement is how much your first impression will count toward the interview. In this regard, you want to be professional both in dress and demeanor. Furthermore, you want to make sure that you have a firm handshake and to smile when meeting the interviewer. A Great Finale At the end of the interview, you will often get asked Do you have any other questions? This is your chance to have the school sell themselves to you. If you have done your job and sold yourself, it will only be even more convincing for the school to feel like they have to have you select their school over all the others you applied to. Your question should be designed to address a specific aspect about the school that you like and would want more information on. It could range from how students interact together, how small groups function in the setting of learning, what students feel could be improved about the school, etc. You want to show you are well researched in the school and that they need to prove to you that they are the school for you (even if you knew that already). Furthermore, at the end of the interview, you want your interviewer to be an advocate for you. They will be playing an important role in your admission and you want them to have a favorable impression of you. If you feel comfortable, ask for a business card or contact information so you can send a hand-written thank you card. If that is not feasible, an email works also. Do your best to keep in touch with them because they can help notify you of where you may be on the wait list or what you can do to improve your chances of getting in the school. Heart’s model for math intervention and volunteer management has tremendous potential to scale in Charlotte and beyond. Looking toward that horizon, the organization needed a brand identity that was a true reflection of its extraordinary premise. This new program will give them an edge, propelling Heart Math Tutoring’s marketing for various audiences in years to come.” In Heart’s new brand, the colors are updated; the shapes suggest math and geometry; and the subtle image of a butterfly evokes the feelings of growth, change, and transformation that we hope to inspire in our students and in the community. The original acronym has been dropped and a new tagline adapted: “Connecting Students Volunteers for Results that Count.” We hope you like it! Special thanks goes to Bellaworks for  refreshing  Heart’s website  and to Crystal Dempsey with  From The Hip Communications for helping us tell our story with our blog, social media, and email. Most of all, thank you to Reemprise Fund for the grant award to make all of this possible. We are excited about the way these developments will help Heart bring one-on-one math tutoring to more students in Charlotte.
